Can you hear this?

I was listening to music as I worked.

Out of the corner of my eye, I saw Teenage Son walk into my office.

I pulled off the headphones. “What did you say?”

He smiled. “You like those?”

Ooo! It's fun to work while listening to music with Sennheiser headphones.

I use his Sennheiser headphones, which give amazing sound. Teenage Son got them last Christmas.

“Sure do,” I said. “And they help with my earworm.”

A look of horror crossed his face as he recoiled and stepped back. “Did you say ‘earworm?’”

Poor kid. Here I was, messing with him.

I explained that an earworm is a song that plays over and over in your mind. Mine has been playing for a couple of days. Some people have “earworms” that play for years or decades.

I could see Teenage Son’s relief. No disgusting creepy crawlies here. Just imaginary music!

I returned to my work… put on the headphones. I wanted to LISTEN again to the real song, not just the one replaying in my head.

Have you ever had an earworm? Did you like the music you heard? What did you hear? Chime in with a comment.

  1. The earworm is too busy fighting with the other voices in my head. ;-)

I just end up with multiple songs playing in a constant loop in my head – which can definitely interfere with the music that I listen to when I work out…:-)

For the second day in a row, Zippity Do Dah is running through my heard. Earworm – really like this term.
